Fans of the 2000 film Gladiator by the directing pioneer Ridley Scott may be celebrating after news that he may be interested in making a follow up to the critically acclaimed film about gladiator Maximus Decimus Meridius, even though (spoiler alert…even though you should have seen it or know by now) Crowe dies.
Mr Scott said: “I know how to bring him back. I was having this talk with the studio – “but he’s dead.” But there is a way of bringing him back.”
In the interview with Entertainment Weekly, Scott carried on in saying: “Whether it will happen I don’t know.
“‘Gladiator was 2000, so Russell’s changed a little bit.
“He’s doing something right now but I’m trying to get him back down here.”
The film, which starred Crowe as a betrayed Roman general seeking revenge for the death of his wife and child, took $34,819,017 on its opening weekend and made $457,683,805 worldwide.
Also starring Joaquin Pheonix, Oliver Reed, Richard Harris and Djimon Hounsou, the film proved to be a lasting tale which many fans still love today. Whilst the tease for a sequel is fairly recent, you can bet it will cause a buzz in Hollywood, and with the constant rebooting or remaking of nearly every franchise or box office-hit under the sun this news could quite easily become reality.
